Record Keeping

This is an example of the records we keep for every hedgehog.

Proper records are vital in keeping track of treatments given, weight gain/loss etc, and allows us to have an efficient stock control system to monitor the use of veterinary medicines – most of the medicines we use are prescription only, and records must be kept for a minimum of 5 years.

I keep the records on a PC, as they are available at the click of the mouse, and easily searchable – we can see at a glance the status of every hedgehogs treatments, what has been given, and when the next treatment is due and update them as required.

All observations and notes are stored with the individual hedgehogs records, so that we don’t need piles of scraps of paper all over the place, which is just as well given the number of hogs we have at present!
