Hamworthy Hedgehog Rescue

Not Easy

Poor old Robbie is not having an easy recovery. He still has a nasal discharge and noisy breathing despite very strong antibiotics and nebuliser treatment.

We noticed his left eye was beginning to bulge on Thursday last week, so he was taken to the vets, where he has been all weekend. They were hoping to remove his eye, but due to his respiratory problems, felt he was too much of a risk from the anaesthetic.

He has been on more antibiotics, and has had oxygen therapy while at the vets, where they reassessed him this morning but decided he was still in too poor a shape to withstand the anaesthetic.

He was released back to our care at 12:00, with another course of antibiotics to take for the next 14 days. We have to take him back to the vets once this course of treatment has completed, and they will hopefully then be able to remove his eye.
