Lizzie update

Update on Lizzie – vet has confirmed she has had some sort of blow to the head, and is suffering with concussion.

Her eye has fully closed now, but we have to wait to see how it develops, hopefully the swelling will go down in a day or two and her eye will be non the worse for wear.

The flea burden has been drastically reduced already, with bazillions dead in her box, so that has been cleaned and fresh bedding put in. That should make her feel a lot better, not having all those fleas feasting on her.

She is still a bit stressed, and has not yet eaten, but she will hopefully take some food overnight.

Daisy

Daisy is still struggling with her bad leg, which is badly bruised and swollen, she is still unable to weight bear on this leg – we think that she may end up losing the leg.

Other than that, the wound on her face has healed, but we’re not sure if the eye is OK or not still. She is eating and drinking well, and seems fine in all other respects.

Infected wounds and fly strike

Bit of a nasty one this.

We had a juvenile male hog dropped off this afternoon, following a call asking if we could take it. We were told that it was in a bad way with a head wound, dehydrated, had flies all over it and smelled.

He had been found yesterday, but not handed in until today. At this time of year, it takes approx 4 hours from flies eggs being laid until the maggots hatch. If we’d had this chap yesterday we could have saved him a lot of pain and discomfort.
