Orphans

Two of the orphan hoglets that came in last night, one male and one female. They are about 5 – 6 days old, and still have their eyes closed. They weigh 59g and 64g and are about the same size as a conker in its shell.

They are difficult feeders, but persistence pays off, and they are taking about 0.8ml per feed at the moment.

It’s a bloody good job we have the incubators, and we’re already thinking of trying to get some more.

Fly strike refers to when flies lay their eggs on a sick or injured animal. The eggs hatch into maggots which then eat away at the flesh of the still living creature.
