Dog attack

We’ve just collected this adult female hog which was attacked by a dog. Another dog walker shouted at the dog’s owner, who then made the dog drop it – but they walked off, leaving the injured hog there.

Thanks to Ray and his son, and the guy with the bearded dragon for calling us.

Most of the blood on the hog is from the dog’s mouth, but the hog does have a couple of puncture wounds, including a through and through wound just above its forehead.

She’s had the wounds flushed, and has been given some antibiotics and fluids, and we’ll keep her for a few days for observation.

Garden Feeding Stations

We maintain several feeding stations for hedgehogs in our garden as we get so many of them visiting, probably because at the bottom of our garden is Lytchett Bay nature reserve, a SSSI. We found several autumn juveniles in the garden, or out on the nature reserve, that were too small for hibernation, so have had them over wintering. These all get released out the back, so it’s nice to be able to see them still around.
