Hamworthy Hedgehog Rescue

Manic

To say yesterday was manic, would be an understatement. We started receiving phone calls at 3.35am and it didn’t stop until just after 11.45pm last night.

We are still assessing most of yesterday’s intakes and have a couple to collect from a vet this morning, so in the meantime here are some pics of the female hedgehog who was caught in a lit bonfire a few days ago.

As you can see the tips of the spikes above her face and head are scorched and she is very lucky not to have suffered worse damage.

Please don’t pile up stuff to burn at a later stage or, like this person you may find a hedgehog has found your pile of leaves/garden waste or rubbish, which has then been discovered by a hedgehog who crawled underneath it for a sleep.

If you must pile of up, please check it thoroughly before lighting it! Many people are not aware of hedgehogs in their gardens until something like this happens.

This girl will be fine after some antibiotics and a little tlc, but others may not be as lucky in escaping with such relatively light injuries.
