Mites

This adult female hog, 637g, came in to us yesterday afternoon after being seen out during daytime, wandering around not really doing anything.

She is very skinny, with lots of loose skin, dehydrated and absolutely covered in mites. She appears to be an elderly old girl, going by her colouring, loss of pigment in her nose and feet and the condition of her teeth.

She was given subcutaneous fluids for the dehydration and a topical application to treat the mites. She was offered food and water and ate two pouches of cat meat, one after the other, where she was so hungry.

Her skin is very thickened from the mite infestation and ringworm, so we will keep her and treat those conditions. She has some pus under the skin where she has been infected for so long.

With treatment and care, we hope she will make a full recovery.
