This little lady named Anna came to us from Blandford yesterday afternoon after being found out wandering around a heavily frosted garden looking for food. She weighs 370g, so is lucky to have survived the recent cold snap.
Luckily for her, the lady who found her popped her into a box straight away and she arrived at our door in less than an hour. She will spend the rest of the winter in one of our heated sheds and return to her finder in spring when the weather warms up.
Anna is a timely reminder to continue putting food out for hedgehogs. Not all of them will hibernate and juveniles in particular who are unable to hibernate will rely on food being provided to help them survive, as is the case here.
