Hamworthy Hedgehog Rescue

Sad news day

Sad news day – We had a mum and 5 newborn babies brought in yesterday after their nest was disturbed during a garden clearance.

Sadly overnight mum has rejected two of the hoglets, weighing only 10g and 13g,. Unfortunately by the time they were discovered early this morning, they had been too long without a feed and were too cold to recover. One had already died and the other died shortly after it was found.

We hope mum is taking care of the other 3 – we can’t disturb her to check or she may well kill or reject the remaining hoglets.

We also had another female hog brought in after she had been ‘found’ by a dog. She gave birth to 2 stillborn hoglets soon after arrival due to the shock and has since died herself.
