Well, it seems to have been a long time in coming, but we’ve got there! The new cages are installed and we have started moving hedgehogs from their temporary boxes into the new cages. These are a fair bit bigger than our original cages, so the hogs have plenty of room. It also means no more lifting and shifting, which will be great for everyone’s backs.
Today was the first time we’ve cleaned them as some hogs were put into the new cages last night, and we have to get used to the door catches and how to lay the paper, how much paper etc. I think that given a short period of getting used to the new layout and cages, everyone will love them.
We would like to thank all our volunteers, donors and supporters who have made this possible. Due to the donations received, this project was fully funded and we did not have to dip into our reserve funds. This was a great effort by all concerned.
Thank you to John (for doing the electrics) Tony (for doing the floor) Cheryl (for coming in every day on her week off to help), Tony (Cheryl’s dad) for helping strip the shed out, Karen & Neil, Angie, Caroline and Pam for fostering hogs while the work was done. Not forgetting, of course, our wonderful volunteers for putting up with chaos while the work was carried out. Thanks also to Richard of Cattery ‘n Kennel for pulling out the stops to get the cages made and delivered to us a day early.
There is a lot of sorting out to do now, and finding new homes for stuff (and then remembering where we put it) but the big stuff is all done now.
