Searching for hogs

Searching for hogs

We carried out an area search for hedgehogs today, as two plots are being cleared for building works to commence. The area is known to have a thriving hedgehog population, and there could well be hogs hibernating here.

Big thanks to Peter Hawkins for helping with the search by using his thermal camera. Unfortunately, due to bonfires where the undergrowth was being burnt, the camera kept getting false positive readings, so we gave up on that idea.

Thanks also to the builders who helped by removing some of the undergrowth as we checked the area. A hand search was carried out when the brambles etc were cleared.

No hogs were found, but we have left humane traps there, just in case. These will be checked tonight and tomorrow morning.
