Large male hog

Large male hog

This strapping male hog, 1011g, was collected from Baiter park in Poole earlier this afternoon after being found laying out in the rain.

Someone had called Shirley at New Milton Hedgehog rescue to say they had found the hog, and that they had left him under a tree in the park. As we are much closer, Shirley rang us with the info, and we went out looking for the hog, and luckily found him.

He is extremely cold and wet – so wet in fact that his spikes are soft where they are full of water. He has a small wound to his right hind foot, and his back legs seem very stiff.

He has been given warm subcutaneous fluids, and is currently warming up in an ICU.

We will give him a full examination when he has warmed up.
