Hamworthy Hedgehog Rescue are a ‘Small Charity’ which basically means that we are a non-profit organisation, and do not currently have sufficient annual income to register with the Charities Commission.
We do not receive operating costs from Government or the Lottery. All expenditure is covered by ourselves, either from our own pocket or by donations from finders and well wishers.
100% of all income is spent on the hedgehogs. There are no staff salaries, vehicle costs or other non-essential expenses taken out of the pot.
Based at our home in Poole, Dorset, we help sick, injured and orphaned wild hedgehogs back to full health with the aim of eventually releasing them back to the wild, or appropriate protected sites.
We are NOT open to the public, except for admissions, as this would be too stressful for the hedgehogs.
The health and welfare of the animals is always our priority.
We’re open 7 days a week, 365 days per year to care for sick, injured or abandoned hedgehogs.
If you find a sick or injured hedgehog, or believe you have found a hedgehog that needs our care, please call us on 07587 925 476 – during busy periods we may not be able to answer, so please leave a brief message with a phone number if possible, and we will contact you as soon as we can.
Hamworthy Hedgehog Rescue are listed on the BHPS Directory.
In the UK, since the 1950s we have lost over 95% of our hedgehogs! Estimates now show there are less than 1 million resident.
