Hamworthy Hedgehog Rescue are registered with the Charities Commission, Registered Charity Number 1186680.
Our rescue is run primarily on the goodwill of donors, and is open every day of the year.
The hedgehogs that are in our care come to us because they are poorly, injured, underweight or orphaned. We helped 700 hedgehogs in 2020, and cared for over 150 hedgehogs over the winter months.
We do not receive operating costs from Government or the Lottery. As a charity we rely on voluntary funding which comes by donations from finders and well wishers, and needless to say funding is a challenge that is faced daily. 100% of all income is spent on the hedgehogs. There are no staff salaries, vehicle costs or other non-essential expenses taken out of the pot.
Based at our home in Poole, Dorset, we help sick, injured and orphaned wild hedgehogs back to full health with the aim of eventually releasing them back to the wild, or appropriate protected sites.
We pride ourselves in our high success rate in the treatment and rehabilitation of hedgehogs that come into our care with life threatening illnesses and injuries, and our high return to wild rate.
Our policy is to properly assess each new patient, to seek veterinary care when required, and to consult with other specialists throughout the country who are advanced in the treatment of hedgehogs.
We’re open 7 days a week, 365 days per year to care for sick, injured or abandoned hedgehogs. We are NOT open to the public, except for admissions, as this would be too stressful for the hedgehogs.
The health and welfare of the animals is always our priority.
Please consider making a small donation to help fund this vital wildlife rescue work. We get no outside funding and our vets bills and food costs are very high, particularly when we have so many hedgehogs to feed and care for.
